Under Vixen’s Mere is one of those novels that quietly gets under your skin and then refuses to leave.
From the opening pages, the prose immediately stood out to me. It’s spare without ever feeling sparse—clean, confident, and quietly assured. Dialogue and description are held in careful balance, each doing its work without calling attention to itself. Nothing strains for effect, and that sense of restraint builds trust early on, inviting the reader to settle in and follow where the story leads.

What makes this book especially satisfying is its sensory richness. The attention to detail is so precise you can practically smell the bread cooling on the racks, the sharpness of cheese, the damp stone after rain. It is comfort reading with substance: sunshine and laughter paired with the everyday complications life throws at us, and the quiet resilience required to meet them.

This is not a book about capital-H heroes. Instead, it centers on people who engage in small acts of service, kindness, and yes, heroism—not for recognition or glory, but because it was the right thing to do in the moment. These are stories of people showing up when it would have been easier not to.

The Locked Room is clever, cozy without being complacent, and deeply satisfying for puzzle-lovers. If you adore classic detective fiction but crave a fresh perspective, Harriet White deserves a place on your shelf—and very likely, in your reading rotation for a long while to come.

About the Book: A Treatise on Martian Chiropractic Manipulation and Other Satirical Tales Human beings are flawed creatures, and humor is the perfect means to exploit the endless fodder of our shortcomings. This multi-genre collection of twenty-one short satirical stories will leave you smirking, chuckling, scratching your head, and maybe even muttering to yourself […]
I am awful at the tangrams, but I do like puzzles in general.
I love to travel too, so much fun! :D
I like your header too!!
Although I have never done it, tap dancing seems like it would be just as you described. Speaking of tap dancing, I learned the following tidbit from somebody’s Thursday Thirteen last week:
As a child, Jim Carrey used to wear his tap shoes to bed just in case his parents needed cheering up in the middle of the night.
Now I’m off in search of tangrams. I love puzzles and this one is new to me.
Great list. I am with Blue Momma on the tangrams.
What a wonderful list. I love it.
What a great list! I learned something and got to enjoy the taste of fresh tomatoes…Yum.
Great list I am the same way about tank tops I wear them everywhere & pretty much under everything
I love Tank Tops too..
Tea, tomateos, tank tops and tap dancing! Go girl!
I love different textures. I can spend an entire day in a fabric or craft store just touching everything. My first job was in a Hancock Fabrics so that I could put away the shipments of fabric and notions and get to experience everything.
Wow, I haven’t thought about that in years. Thank you. :)

I’m a tank top girl myself, but luckily I live somewhere warm enough that I have months and months where I don’t need to layer anything on top of them. And textures. I love textures.
I enjoy Earl Gray tea and travel too. Thanks for visiting my TT.
I love, love tea too, but cannot have any for a while for medical reasons. Poot!
Oh yes, travel is wonderful. I like to see and do as well.
I loved the story about the trowel. I had one of those too for helping in the garden as a child :)
Great list! The difference between panty hose and tights is not subtle, tobe sure! I know exactly what you mean as I sit here in my tank top.
Taxis and the city…What’s better?
What a great list! I love tank tops – although we are moving to a season where I cannot wear them. Sigh….
Wouldn’t it be fun to tesseract!! Where would you go??
I agree with a lot of those, especially tomato sandwiches, travel and theater, but NYC cabs make me a nervous wreck!
Watching tap dancing always brings a smile to my face! Yes, yes, yes, tomatoes, tanks and tights… tea…only if it’s iced.
Most intriguing about the tesseracts.
Happy TT! Thank you for visiting my list today.
I love that you included tesseracts and tap dancing on the same list! I’m a big fan of Madeleine L’Engle. :) And a former tap dancer (many, many years ago). Great list! :)
i’m a tapper too!

Great TT and I love your site. The colored pencils and search box are great :) Thanks for visiting my blog earlier!
This is one of the best TT I have read in a while. What a great list. I love what you wrote about Tap-Dancing – so fitting!! Taxis, Travel, Trowel, Tights. Spot on. Except for tomatoes. I don’t do tomatoes. *grin*
I’m here (again) via Michele! Hello from her and hello from me. Enjoy your weekend…
I love these letter theme lists! I don’t know if I could come up with 13 things on one letter!
I think tea and tomatoes are the only ‘T things’ we have in common LOL. Tangrams are one of the only puzzles I don’t like, I hate tights and pantyhose, I’m a scent person rather than feel, and I think I’ve been in maybe 5 taxis my entire life!
Fun list! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for stopping by and for adding me to your blogroll. You have a great blog of your own. Of course, we can be friends. The friends in my computer are some of my best. I’m adding you also and am looking forward to visiting and commenting regularly.
