Nothing strains for effect, and that sense of restraint builds trust early on, inviting the reader to settle in and follow where the story leads.
What makes this book especially satisfying is its sensory richness. The attention to detail is so precise you can practically smell the bread cooling on the racks, the sharpness of cheese, the damp stone after rain. It is comfort reading with substance: sunshine and laughter paired with the everyday complications life throws at us, and the quiet resilience required to meet them.
This is not a book about capital-H heroes. Just hope it won’t prove to be disappointment. Not sure if it’s me getting older, getting less trekkie or something like that, or Star Trek movies became somewhat, I won’t say bad, but less good.
I have been a bit unenthused about the direction they are taking with this film and will be until the film proves me otherwise. However, I was still super excited by the trailer and am even more convinced that despite my fears I will still be there opening weekend.
I have to send this to my husband! We love Star Trek and had no idea that a movie was coming out…is it all the original actors? It has been awhile!
