Let Them Eat Cake
I’m not sure what the best fast weight loss tips would include, but I’m pretty sure, “eat cake for breakfast” would not be among them. Nevertheless, I began my morning with a mug of Tazo “Awake” tea, and three small – and by small I mean the size of petits fours – bits of cake, 2 carrot, 1 strawberry, that were left over from a sunny afternoon coffee date with my friend Deb yesterday.
And they were good.
Actually, cake for breakfast is a rare but important tradition in my family. Typically, the morning after one’s birthday, a slice of leftover cake accompanied by strong coffee or ice cold milk is the first meal of the day, though it’s generally supplemented with a token of something healthy. A piece of fruit, perhaps, or freshly-squeezed orange juice.
My grandmother’s tradition was that a special occasion isn’t over until the last slice of cake is gone. I sometimes wonder if her propensity for freezing a few slices was not so much the desire to have easy access to “a little something” when she was craving dessert, but an attempt to prolong the warm, glowy feeling that comes from celebrating with loved ones.

I had fresh baked chocolate cake for my birthday earlier this week, but never thought of having it for breakfast:) I think that’s a tradition I might embrace!
